Augusta, Georgia – A 20-year-old man, Cameron Wakei Roberson, was arrested on Sunday in connection with multiple allegations of rape, including the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl. The arrest took place after the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault occurring at a residence off Meadowbrook Drive.

Authorities were alerted early Sunday morning, around 8 a.m., when the mother of a victim heard distressing noises outside their home. Upon investigation, she found her daughter in tears, claiming that she had been raped, stating, “He raped me and I did not do nothing.” This prompted the mother to contact law enforcement.

Deputies quickly responded to the scene and commenced their investigation. Following a brief search, they located Roberson hiding in a portable toilet near Deans Bridge Road, after he had fled the location of the alleged assault. The victim reported that she was asleep on a couch during a party when Roberson initiated sexual activity, mistakenly believing she was his girlfriend.

This recent incident is not Roberson’s first encounter with the law regarding sexual offenses. He was previously wanted for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl, a case dating back to March. In that situation, the girl’s mother discovered suggestive text messages exchanged between the two, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Roberson.

Roberson’s legal troubles extend beyond these allegations. In December, he was arrested for vehicle theft and attempting to evade police officers, where he faced several charges. Additionally, he has pending felony charges in Burke County, which include burglary and credit card theft.

Following his arrest on Sunday, Roberson was charged with rape, statutory rape, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. As he awaits further legal proceedings, he is currently being held without bond at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Authorities have also served him with a bench warrant issued by the Superior Court in relation to his prior cases and the statutory rape charges from March.

The community remains shaken by these allegations, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding safety and the protection of minors against sexual crimes. Law enforcement encourages anyone with additional information about Roberson’s behavior or related incidents to come forward.

As investigations continue, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will remain vigilant in addressing incidents of sexual violence to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens in Augusta and surrounding areas.
