Atlanta, Georgia – A significant law enforcement initiative, called “Operation No Escape,” has resulted in the apprehension of 177 fugitives across Georgia. This operation is a collaborative effort led by FBI Atlanta and the U.S. Marshals Service, working closely with various state and local agencies. The operation spanned six weeks and primarily targeted fugitives wanted on serious charges.

Of the 177 arrests made, more than 100 occurred within the metro Atlanta area alone. The individuals captured are accused of a wide range of offenses, including murder, assault, manslaughter, drug-related crimes, and fraudulent activities. Among those arrested, 28 individuals were specifically wanted for homicide offenses, while 60 faced charges of assault. Additionally, eight men were apprehended for crimes against children.

Noteworthy arrests include Rico Arnold, who is linked to a mass shooting on Edgewood Avenue in July that resulted in one death and ten injuries. Another notable fugitive taken into custody was Votino Kapri Poon, who had been evading law enforcement for nearly four years on murder charges. The operation saw law enforcement personnel capturing fugitives in various locations, including a college campus, Truist Park, and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where 11 fugitives were detained.

Operation No Escape specifically targeted fugitives across 58 jurisdictions within Georgia, yielding significant outcomes. In terms of geographic breakdown, 31 fugitives were wanted for crimes in Atlanta, followed by 25 from DeKalb County, 10 from Henry County, and 4 from Gwinnett County. The operation’s reach extended beyond metropolitan areas, encompassing other regions such as Columbus, Macon, Athens, Augusta, Savannah, and northeast Georgia.

FBI officials have noted that Georgia currently leads the nation in the number of fugitives apprehended. Despite a downward trend in crime, law enforcement agencies emphasize the importance of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime. According to U.S. Marshal Thomas Brown, the operation effectively removed numerous dangerous offenders who had significantly impacted their communities.

Operation No Escape is also part of a larger initiative named “Operation Summer Heat,” which aims to reduce violent crime across the state. This comprehensive approach illustrates the commitment of law enforcement to ensure public safety and tackle the challenges posed by serious crime.

As authorities celebrate these successes, they stress that vigilance and sustained enforcement are essential in maintaining the safety of Georgia’s communities. The apprehended fugitives represent a cross-section of serious offenders, and their removal from society is seen as a crucial step toward ongoing efforts to address and mitigate violent crime in the state.
