FORT GORDON, Ga. — Natravien Reshawn Landry, a 25-year-old former Army National Guard soldier from Louisiana, will spend 25 years in federal prison for a deadly shooting inside family housing on Fort Gordon in December 2024.

Federal prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the 300-month term on Wednesday. After release, he will remain under five years of court supervision. Because federal convictions carry no parole, he is expected to serve the bulk of that time.

Landry had admitted to two charges: second-degree murder and using a gun during a crime of violence. According to prosecutors, he went to on-post housing where a woman he has a child with lived, came upon another soldier inside the home and shot him to death.

He then left the installation. Roughly three hours later he was pulled over in a traffic stop south of Atlanta, and officers found a 9 mm handgun. Testing later matched that weapon to the killing.

Agents with the Army Criminal Investigation Division, known as Army CID, led the investigation.

U.S. Attorney Margaret E. Heap said that while no sentence can undo the loss, this one keeps the defendant locked up for more than two decades. She said her office will keep partnering with Army investigators to hold people accountable for crimes on military posts.

Fort Gordon, the Army post just west of Augusta, is home to thousands of soldiers and their families, many of whom live in on-post housing like the home where the shooting happened. The sentence closes out a case that began nearly two years ago, when the killing and the manhunt that followed drew attention across the Augusta area and down the interstate toward Atlanta.
