AUGUSTA, Ga. — Holiday shoppers in Augusta will get an early chance to buy from campus entrepreneurs when Augusta University stages its Holiday Maker’s Market for a second year on Friday, Nov. 13.
Doors open at 11 a.m., and the shopping lasts until 3:30 that afternoon. The setting is the Georgia Cyber Center, in its Shaffer-MacCartney Building. Close to 36 sellers are lined up, offering art, jewelry, handcrafted items and things to eat.
The event was created to give the university’s own makers a place to sell. Faculty, staff, students and alumni who run small businesses fill most of the tables, and this year organizers say the vendor count is up from the first market, with a noticeable jump in the number of student-run businesses taking part. Shops from the wider Augusta community will also have booths beside the university sellers.
Lynsey Steinberg, the university’s director of academic entrepreneurship, said the growth in vendors, especially students, shows how much entrepreneurial energy exists on campus. Stanley Singleton, associate vice president of career-integrated learning, described the market as hands-on learning, a way for students to turn ideas into real experience and build business and professional skills.
The school ties the event to its broader push for experiential learning and support for entrepreneurs across campus. Organizers are urging visitors to shop local, look for one-of-a-kind presents and support both new and established business owners before the holiday rush. Last year’s market was the first, and organizers are building on its success by making room for more sellers this time.
