AIKEN, S.C. — The Salvation Army of Aiken and First Baptist Church are racing to replace a lost turkey donor ahead of their free Come to the Table Thanksgiving gathering on Nov. 26, set for late morning through early afternoon inside the church fellowship hall.

Capt. Michael Good of the Salvation Army said a supporter who had supplied roughly 60 birds for about four years cannot help this year, leaving organizers short on poultry for a meal that served 1,200 people in 2025 and may add as many as 200 more seats.

USC Aiken usually handles the cooking. Supporters can purchase turkeys and leave them at the Salvation Army office on Gayle Avenue at Durham Street, or underwrite bulk buys so the agency can stretch its budget. Birds are needed by Nov. 23; side items such as canned green beans, butter, boxed mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce are welcome too.

The host church sits at 120 Chesterfield Street North, between Barnwell and Richland. Security Federal Bank remains a lead sponsor for the third year of the Come to the Table partnership. Helpers are needed Nov. 25 and on Thanksgiving itself for prep, decorating, serving, deliveries, and cleanup.

Good said the table is open to anyone craving community for the holiday, not only neighbors facing homelessness or poverty. Reach the local Salvation Army at 803-641-4141 to arrange a gift.
